Top 5 Highest-Grossing Indonesian movie

Top 5 list highest-grossing movie. everybody like top list right ? I mean that’s the stuff everybody in youtube like to watch. Everybody want to know who’s in the top of every subject. Why I made this? because I don’t have any idea for my final test and I just watch watchmojo (this article is not sponsored by anybody. Just saying, I mean this website is not popular that anyone will pay me to do this.) Alright, enough rambling and let’s start the list. However, before I start with the list, I want to set up some rule. First, only a movie that made by Indonesian people and shown in Indonesia movie theater are included in this list. Second, because the data I get from filmindonesia only provide the total amount of tickets that sold so I will be the one to convert the tickets number to rupiah. For example [number of tickets sold x Rp. 40.000]. Third, As we know that the ticket price for movie theater in Indonesia varies. The normal ticket usually starts from Rp 20.000  until Rp 60.000 depends on where and when you watch the movie. So, I will use Rp 40.000 as the average price for every ticket. Lastly, I will use rupiah instead of dollar. Why? Because I can. It’s not because I am too lazy to convert it to USD. I swear. Okay let’s start the list for real this time.

5. Habibie & Ainun (2012)

Box office: 4.583.641ticket sold or Rp.183 Billion*

Director: Faozan Rizal

The love story between our 3rd president B. J. Habibie and his wife, Hasri Ainun Habibie sit comfortably in number 5. This masterpiece garners around 183 Billion rupiah from box office only.

4. The Rainbow Troops (2008)

Box office: 4.719.453 ticket sold or Rp.188 Billion

Director: Riri Riza

The inspiring story about a group of 10 students and their teacher to prove that poverty can’t stop their spirit to study make it to this list. Their spirit make this masterpiece created originally by Andrea Hirata still hang in number 4 even tough decade has passed it still garner around 188 Billion rupiah. In my opinion I think this is the best movie from this list. so if you never watch it go watch it. You already watch it? go watch it again.

3. Dillan 1991 (2019)

Box office: 5.028.000 ticket sold or Rp.201 Billion

Director: Fajar Bustomi

The newest film in this list. As a sequel to the love story Dillan 1990 this sequel get to sit in number 3 with 201 Billion rupiah. I personally only watch the prequel so I don’t know if Dilan 1991 is deserving this position or not. I am sure Dilan franchise is not overrated

2. Dillan 1990 (2018)

Box office: 6.315.664 ticket sold or Rp.253 Billion

Director: Fajar Bustomi

This romantic drama story of Dilan and Milea originally created by Pidi Baiq dominate the no 2 and no 3 spot in this list. While the writer of this list didn’t know why this film is so popular to garner this much attention. It’s not that the film is not good, it’s just overrated. Sorry I just want to let out my opinion and spread some of my salt.

So? who beat Dilan as the highest-grossing Indonesian movie ? without further ado!

1. Warkop DKI Reborn: Jangkrik Boss! Part 1 (2016)

Box office: 6.858.616 ticket sold or Rp. 274 Billion

Director: Anggy Umbara

The re imagine of the original legendary comedy group Warkop DKI staring Abimana Aryasatya as Dono, Vino Bastian as Kasino, Tora Sudiro as Indro and finally , The Man, The Myth, The Legend, the original Warkop DKI member Indro as Indro from the future sit as the number one film in this list. Warkop DKI as comedy group created from decades ago is a juggernaut in entertainment business in the past. This film has proven that the name Warkop DKI is still popular as ever and prove itself As the king of comedy and cinema in Indonesia.
